Product Review and Giveaway: Ameba TV

Television has revolutionized the entertainment world ever since it's invention. Now in this very digital age, there are many different ways to access all of your favorite television entertainment programs. The bonus of this technology is that it is not just limited to watching your favorite episodes after they have aired, but the ability to control the programming your children watch. From the toddler age and older, the need for monitoring the programming they view grows more and more important. This is where Ameba TV set top box comes in. Designed by a parent, for parents, this set top box allows for easy control and access to a wide variety of children's programs, and makes customizing the content easy with just a few steps. Let's take a look at it, shall we?

About Ameba TV  - Ameba is an IPTV company based out of Winnipeg, Canada, and founded by Tony Havelka. The idea behind it was simple: Quality, commercial free children's programming, easily accessible and customizable. Ameba has just announced a strategic partnership with the Roku Digital Media Player as a premier children's digital media channel available on the player. Ameba TV also has a set top box seperate from the Roku player. I have had the pleasure of trying out the Ameba set top box here at home and I am delighted to tell you about it.

Brief Description - The Ameba set top box hooks up to your internet connection (wireless or LAN). You choose the programs that your children watch and assign them to their own custom profiles. You can set up different profiles for different children and assign programs accordingly. All of this is done from the website and the programs are then downloaded to your set top box for a subscription of $9.99 a month. Choose from a wide variety of educational, musical, multi-language, and engaging children's programming, with more being added all the time!

Pros - I had the pleasure of reviewing the box with the optional wireless connection. This made it easy to place the box out of reach of The Kiddos without having to worry about LAN cables everywhere. The menus were easy to navigate and it didn't take long at all for new shows to download to the box. The programming available was great. Captivating and educational. The ability to pick and choose based on what the children liked and wanted was great. No more having to wait for shows that they don't watch or getting up to change DVDs a thousand times!

Cons - Getting it set up was a little more difficult than I thought it would be. I had just a few problems getting the wireless connection set up. I'm not sure if it was the box or the security I have in place on my connection. After a few tries I finally got it up and going.

Overall - I give the Ameba TV set top box The DaddyYo Dude seal of approval! Great concept, good programming choices and controls, and most importantly, the approval from The Kiddos!

This looks awesome! We don't actually subscribe to regular cable and my kids get sick of watching the same DVDs -- having kids programs on demand would be the perfect solution!
